We are going to Cinque Terre thru Milan and returning afterward for our flight out. Are there lockers in the train station where we can leave our bags for a couple of days?
There is a manned storage facility.
Lockers pretty much don't exist anywhere due to terror threats and haven't for the last 15 years. Big train stations like Milano have 'left luggage' facilities where baggage is screened and can be checked for a day or two. Some stations have lockers but luggage is screened first and then access to lockers allowed.

Left luggage - KiPoint
Left luggage in Milano Centrale, managed by KiPoint, is the right place to leave your luggage securely whilst you enjoy a meal or browse around the shops. It is located in the new shopping gallery on the ground level, by Piazza Luigi di Savoia.
For each piece of baggage service fees are € 6,00 for the first 5 hours, € 0,90/hour from the 6th to the 12th hour, and € 0,40 for every additional hour.
06.00 a.m. - 11.00 p.m.
Open every day
Allow at least fifteen minutes to leave and twenty minutes to pick up your luggage. They do screen and fast is not in their vocabulary.
We'll just keep it. Wont have much but thought it would be nice to just take a backpack. But those charges are more than the convenience is worth to me.
Thank you for the information. I'm very grateful.
