Lockers at Pompeii & Herculaneum

Both sites limit size of packs. We'll be arriving Herculaneum before checking into our room, and Pompeii after checking out, so we'll have backpacks with 3 days of clothing, etc. -- probably bigger than allowed in.

I've read a few websites (including in this forum) confirming that there are lockers at Pompeii, or at least luggage storage at the train station.

However I see conflicting websites about Herculaneum -- some say there is storage, others say not.

Can someone confirm either way?

And if there aren't lockers, what can we do with our packs?

Thanks!

Might your hotels let you leave your luggage with them pre-checkin and post-checkout? I’ve never been refused when I asked to do that. Of course, you could ask your hotels now whether that’s a possibility.

Thanks, that would work for a hotel, but we booked an Airbnb and I don't know if the host will be available before mid-afternoon check-in.

Also we'll be coming from Naples and staying in Pompeii, so we'd have to go past Herculaneum, on to Pompeii, then back to Herculaneum. Possible if necessary but inconvenient.

Hi, We were at both in Jan.

We put our backpacks in the free electronically controlled lockers at the entrance to Pompeii.

I think at Herculaneum we carried our bag in

I just checked the street view in google for the Herculaneum entrance. That have bag storage there

So good to check them in at the entrance of both places.

Back from the trip. I can confirm that there is luggage storage at Herculaneum but not at the train station.
The shop next door to the station exit does bus tours to Vesuvius, and they store luggage as well (don't have to take their tour). It was 5 euros per bag and they closed at 3:30pm.
Better yet, they have it at the ticket office to the site. I don't know the cost because we had already checked ours at the above place. I didn't see a price -- might even be free -- but not sure.

BTW, the woman in the train station ticket office insisted that there was no luggage storage anywhere in town, including at the site. I told her I thought there was, but she was adamant. In fact the first place was right next door to her.

Perhaps Jim is fitter than I am, but I would hate to have to carry a substantial back-pack up the steep hill in the town of Herculaneum, to get back to the Circumvesuviana station! Indeed, that commuter rail station is completely unstaffed and has no services. But thank you for coming back with a full report.
