Locker rental at train stations

Hello, I have a question about the length of time allowed to rent lockers in the train stations both in Venice and Naples. My family of 6 people would like to store our luggage at the train station in Venice for about a day & 1/2 and in Naples for 3 days. However, I don't know if the rental can be done for that long without having to be there in person to renew it. I also wanted to ask if anyone knows the cost for the rental of these lockers & how available they might be for the summer of this coming year. Thanks so much for any information you might have. Linda

Venezia Unica provides all sorts of information and tickets in Venice - it is the official tourism website of the City of Venice (that's why there are references to Mestre too, it is also part of the city, but on the mainland.

They have a webpage with all sorts of information about the city and that includes places to store luggage. There may be other private operators not included.

To get to the luggage section of the information have a look at

https://www.veneziaunica.it/en/content/practical-information#luggage

which is available in several languages - I've given you the English. Note that it is much cheaper at P.le Roma (where incidentally Venezia Unica has an office I use for certain local IDs) than across the Grand Canal at the station. By the day, not by the hour.

If you have a little time to scroll up and down beyond the storage information you can find all sorts of great information, from hours at the hospital to the local language to how to post a letter. Very helpful. The click guide into that page is at the top - https://www.veneziaunica.it/en/content/practical-information

I know of this page from my many visits to Venice; I'm sorry I don't know the information for Naples.

Note- as is common, these are not lockers but staffed operations. You don't pay by the locker and however much you can cram in - you pay by the piece.

Info forNapoli Centrale…

Left Luggage options at Naples centrale

Left luggage is managed by Ki Point at the Napoli Centrale Station. Luggage storage cost is Euro 6 for the first five hours and increases to Euro 1 per hour from 6th to 12th hour. Beyond that, the cost is Euro 0.50 per hour. The location of this left luggage is at:

The ground floor of Platform 5.

There are no lockers inside train stations in Italy, only staffed deposits. If you mean Venezia S. Lucia and not Mestre the Ki Point shop used to be close to track #1, past the toilette.

You can find old style lockers around Venice, google: Stow Your Bags + Venezia

Make sure you retrieve your luggage before the depot closes for the night (by 11pm at Venice Santa Lucia or by 9pm at Napoli Centrale).

For the curious ( and I guess in my case dense) why do you need luggage storage for 3 days in Naples? Why wouldn't it be at your lodging?

That is really a good question & I should have explained. Our family of 6 (3 adults & 3 children) will be traveling by train from Florence, with our destination being Positano. We looked into renting a car for our drive thru the amalfi coast & decided that the best plan was to take the train from Florence to Naples, rent a mini van in Naples & return it (back to Naples) after our 3 day stay in Positano & Pompeii. The mini van we rented can fit 6 people but not 6 pieces of luggage. We have to head back to Naples anyway because from there we plan to take the train to Rome. So this idea seemed to be a good one - if we are able to safely store our luggage somewhere in or near the train station. I will definitely look into all the info I received from you good people & hopefully it will all work out. Thank u!

Linda, your best route would be to train from Florence to Salerno. There are direct trains @ 9:14 & 110:14 no changes. 3hr48m.

From Salerno to Positano the Travelmare ferry takes 70 minutes.

https://www.travelmar.it/_download/orari-travelmar-aprile-2022.pdf

Much faster than trying to drive out of Naples and navigating unfamiliar roads. Drive time around
1hr40 min to Positano.

At the time of year you’re going, a car will not necessarily be of any advantage, as the roads will be crowded and you can’t go any faster than the busses in front of you. Ferries will get you to where you want faster than the bus.

I do question having 3 children in Positano as it’s really not child friendly.

You realize that most Italians wouldn't dare to drive in Naples? Especially not a van.

And that you'll pay to keep a rental parked somewhere on the Amalfi Coast? Of course, assuming you'll find an hotel with free parking.

Follow the above advice and take a direct train from Florence to Salerno and pick the car there, if really you can't use the ferries. Then drop the van in Salerno and take a train to your next destination. In addiction to the Trenitalia trains listed above, there are those run by Italotreno, the private competitor.

Last time I checked parking a car in Positano cost about 30€ a day. I checked the cost of a minivan for 3 days for a random date in June and www.AutoEurope.com gave me a price of over $900. So you are looking at well over $1000 for your car rental extravaganza.
At that rate you’re much better off using a private car service from Naples to Positano (and back) assuming you don’t like the idea of taking a ferry from Salerno to Positano. I checked with www.autoblu.com, a private car service in Naples, and they charge €135 for 6 people from Naples to Positano. Once you are at your accommodations in Positano you can easily take a bus to go around, or you can take a boat too to visit Amalfi or Capri.

Lindah, some advice on travel from Florence to Positano had been offered up in one of your earlier threads, and still stands. No, I would not rent a van for this leg of the trip; I don't know as you'd use it (or even WANT to use it) during high season on the coast.

But while it's not part of your question, I'm going to raise another concern? Patching together your most recent questions, it's starting to look like you might still be trying to follow the death march (I mean that kindly) of an itinerary that you had included in the post I've linked above. I'm seeing mention of Paris, Salzburg, Luzern, Venice, Florence, Positano, Rome. + 1 night in London; with 3 tweens/teens ages (guessing here) 11-13. Your original trip plan was 2.5 weeks. I'm curious what it looks like now?
