Lock for backpacks needed at Left luggage?

Wife and I will have our large backpacks (with clothes and toiletries only) to leave for a few hours at the following train stations. Are we required to have a lock on them to leave them there? It seems useless on a backpack bc there are so many pockets.

Napoli Centrale
Roma Termini
Pisa Centrale

Thanks for the advice.

At Roma Termini several years ago, I was told that my backpack had to be locked. Locking the main compartment of my bag is standard practice for me, so it wasn't an issue. It also may have changed. (The company managing the larger station services also has a contact email: [email protected].)

great,

You may not be required to lock your luggage, but IMO it would be prudent to lock as many compartments as reasonably possibly, in order to discourage "opportunistic pilfering". I don't find it a problem to pack along a couple of small Padlocks and I use the RS FlexiLocks a lot during travel.

Though not "necessary", some experiences in my youth made me lock all bags everywhere, Especially at Termini and other main stations I've been to. It's not as daunting as I make it sound, but a small lock is never a bad idea, and can be quite the discouragement. I've heard even more colorful stories about Napoli, but am not here to spread hearsay.....
