Location of Monterosso Hotel

Hi All - I had planned to stay in Vernazza, but had some challenges. Places seem to either not respond or are full. I found and booked this place in Montoerosso. The reviews are good and it seems fairly central - says 15 min walk from train station. However, could someone confirm for me this is okay location for someone traveling by train (coming from Florence & leaving for Rome). Can still cancel booking so would just like to know. Thanks so much as I'm not familiar with Monterosso so it's hard for me to know.

sarah,

I've never stayed at Affittacamere Monterosso 5 Terre, but can confirm that the location is OK. It's in the "old town" and very close to my usual hotel in Monterosso, and at about the same distance up the hill. The estimate of a 15 minute walk is a bit "optimistic" (especially with luggage), but close.

If you need more specific directions on how to get there from the train station, post another note here.

Are you asking about distance or safety? Plug the address into goggle maps.

I'm asking more about distance. I just want to be sure things in town are walkable. I'm assuming safety isn't really an issue. Maybe that's a bad assumption but I live in DC now and know how to be careful.

Sarah,

I've never found safety to be an issue in Monterosso, even at night. The Affittacamere appears to be not far off the main road, Via Roma / SP38. Have a look using Google Street View for some idea what that area looks like. There are lots of nice restaurants in the old town within a few minutes walk, and lots more in the new town.

When is your trip taking place?

Sarah,

We stayed at 'Hotel Baia' which is very close to the train station & on the waterfront: http://www.baiahotel.it/

I prefer to stay close to the station especially when arriving & departing with luggage.

Here is a list of other hotels in Monterosso: http://www.rebuildmonterosso.com/p/visitors-information.html

We almost stayed at 'La Spiaggia hotel' but there was no vacancy (we were there in October & didn't make reservations in advance) http://www.laspiaggiahotel.com/

Enjoy your trip!

Sarah, everything is Monterosso is 'walkable': it's just not that big. We stayed not far from the train station (La Spiaggia) but walked all over town. As so much of the CT is strictly pedestrianized, exploring the villages on foot - and navigating hills - is pretty much mandatory. Monterosso actually has the most areas of fairly level ground as compared to the others.

Unless you have a lot of luggage, you shouldn't have a problem. And all of the CT is very safe. I do notice a couple of comments in the booking.com reviews that the owner has met some of her guests at the train and driven them to the accommodation but I don't see any complaints about distance from the station from guests who walked with their bags.
