Ljubljana to Milan

My wife and I finish an organized tour in Ljubljana in mid-june. We have five days to get to Milan for a flight home. We would like to rent a car and visit the Italian Alps. We've been to Italy three or four times but never to the Alps what are some suggestions for where to go and how to get there? Jocko 😎

Since you are on that side of Italy, you should visit the Dolomites.
Make sure you go to Trieste (Italy) by bus first and rent a car there. Renting in Slovenia and dropping the car in Italy would cost you a fortune in car rental drop off fees.

For a sample itinerary, try this.

The Stelvio Pass is currently closed, therefore Google map doesn't let me go from Trafoi to Bormio via the Stelvio pass, but by the time you go it will reopen.

Train schedules now reflect direct Ljubljana-Trieste buses at 7:40 and 15:25 daily. These may be new, since I don't recall seeing them last year. Or DRD buses run directly between Ljubljana and Venice on a slightly different timetable.
