Looking for a scenic route by train. Looks like Ljubljana to Villach to Spittal-Millsatrer two Lienz to Feetezza to bmBolzano would work. Any suggestions or comments. Jocko
That's the only way. The other way is to take a commuter rail from Ljubljana to Trieste (this only runs on a severely limited schedule and doesnt stop in Trieste proper, rather in Villa Opincina) and then train to Venice, Verona, Trento, Bolzano.
Your suggestion is the far more scenic.
What is the purpose of the trip to Bolzano? If it is to see the Dolomites, I would suggest a bus detour to actually see them. At St Lorenzen (San Lorenzo) get off the train and take the 460 bus to Corvara. If it is after June 11, take the 471 bus over the Groednerjoch (Passo Gardena) to Wolkenstein (Selva) then the 350 bus to Bozen (Bolzano). Might take a couple of days, but well worth it.
