Will be on a cruise in early May and spending a day in Livorno Italy.
Was wondering if it is easy to take transportation from cruise port to train station and onto Luca or Pisa for a day trip?
Do they speak English at train station and how easy is it to purchase train tickets?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.
This is the least expensive.
Alternatively, take a taxi from Piazza Municipio (shuttle bus drop-off) to the railway station - around €8.00
Tickets are available in ticket machines and ticket counters. Regional train, so you need to validate your ticket.
Taxi from port to Livorno centrale $20.
You can easily walk from Piazza del Municipio to the train station in less than 40 minutes, seeing the New Fortress (built in 1590) and the city center on the way. Or take the LamBlu bus and get there in 15 minutes. Frankly, I'd just walk: The interior of buses and cabs is the same all over the world.
If you have internet connection on board, get your train tickets on trenitalia.com before disembarking. Tickets purchased online do not need to be time-stamped before getting on the train. The downside is that you can use them only on that Regional train and on the Regionales departing within a few hours.
Otherwise just push the UK flag on the display of the ticket machines and pick Pisa or Lucca (note spelling) as arrival station. There are videos on YouTube explaining how to push etc. etc. You can Use the same machine to buy the tickets from Pisa to Lucca and from Lucca back to Livorno. Regional trains tickets purchased at the station can be used on any Regional train running on the picked day, but you must time-stamp before use.
Chris, looking back at your previous posts (you previously posted under the name Bill) you appear to have had prior experience buying regionale train tickets at Fiumicino and validating them before boarding. The process at Livorno, Pisa and/or Lucca should be similar.
