We will arrive at Livorno on a cruise. We would like to take a train to see The Cinque Terra area. Is this practical with a one day stay only? If so, can anyone help us with transportation details? Thanks!
I am assuming that you must be back at the ship by 5:00pm or so. Is that correct? If yes, you can see much of the CT in 4-5 hours.
A trip to Monterosso (farthest CT town) will take almost two hours. There are no direct trains so you will need to change trains at least once. I suggest Monterosso and then working back to Vernazza. These are two of more popular towns. Then, take the train down to Riomaggiore and walk the 25 minute trail to Manarola. Skip Corniglia it's higher up on a bluff and not much there (although scenic). Have lunch somewhere during your visit. Train back to Livorno.
