We will be in Livorno for 1 day, Sept. 17th on our cruise. We have been to Florence & "did it thoroughly" but never went to Pisa. Thought we'd go there on our own, see the tower & cathedral & then hang out in Livorno for a bit before returning to ship. Think this is a worthwhile plan?

I haven't been to Livorno, but I liked Lucca a lot, and it's just beyond Pisa, a total of about an hour from Livorno by train.

Lucca would be my first choice, with a stop in Pisa for about an hour.
Livorno is good for a nice a cacciucco at a fish restaurant.
