is it easy to rent a car by the port in Livorno - and/or can you hire a driver for a reasonable price when a cruise stops there
Lots to do out of Livorno. On many ships that dock there, you have about 9 hours. It would seem that the most popular ship excursions would be Florence or Pisa. Perhaps Lucca. All of this you can do on your own with the local Regionale trains. Just buy your ticket, validate it at the little yellow box in the train station, get on and you are on your way. No seat reservations permitted on the Regionale trains. They can't be sold out either. If you really want a rental car, you can easily get to Volterra, San Gimignano and Siena and then back to the boat on time. Note, most major credit cards do not cover your collision in Italy. It is best to accept the profit-making full CDW coverage.
thank you for your response - would you know which rental cars are easy to access from the port? having diffculty understanding where they are located
If you were to Google "AutoEurope Livorno" and Stazione Maritima, AutoEurope has a map that shows you right where the rental car place is located. It's at the port. They also have two other offices in the city.
