Not much to see in Livorno. The city was heavily hit during WW2. Some items worth seeing:

If you'd like to spend a nice day at the beach, nearby Castiglioncello is nice and a short bus or train ride.
Grosseto and its region the Maremma are nice, depending the time you have and if you would rent a car for half day or not.
Also from Livorno you can go to Capraia Island or to Elba, I do not know if you are boarding there with your cruise nor what kind of cruise ( big boat or small boat) it is. If you can ask the skipper to stop there, it would indeed a very nice outing, you can take the bus and tour Elba in 2 hours time.
Thanks so much. We will only be in Livorno one day from a cruise ship-but it looks like plenty to see and do and much to photograph and try some local products. Thanks
