We visited Lucca a few years ago and stayed a couple of days near Plazza del Antfiteatro inside the city walls.
While wandering around the old town area we discovered a lovely garden with a large fountain and several statues with the fourteenth century Guiningi tower looming in the back ground.. We did some research and discovered it was the Pfanner family who had opened the garden grounds to feature their family’s ancestors collection of 18th century Greek statues.
The garden has grassy areas, flowers and trees. As well as the Palazzo Pfanner buildings, where the family still resides
While planning our return to Lucca we discovered that one of the Palazzo family units was available to rent.
We booked it and spent 4 nights joyfully pretending to be part of the family. Every evening when the garden was closed to the public we took our wine and found benches where we enjoyed the quiet peaceful garden. We felt like royalty on a Tuscan retreat!

Wow - I love that! I have found the place and saved it. That’s just the sort of unusual lodging I love. And I would definitely be coming home with a few pieces from that pottery shop! Lucca is still on my list of places to get to.

I have been in Lucca many times but I was not aware you could rent that place! Saw it many times!
One recommendation I keep giving to people going to Lucca is to check the Nottolini Aqueduct, it is an extremely beautiful architectonic marvel from the 1800 that most tourists miss, what a shame! A Neoclassical Aqueduct starting directly from the city center!
