Living in Orvieto for 90 Days

Hi, I’m looking for a 3 months rental apartment/flat or cottage for a solo traveler near Orvieto Centre for April-May 2023. Any suggestions. Thank you MCF

That apartment looks nice, but it is already booked for most of April and half of May.

As phred mentions, searching on VRBO.com and/or airbnb.com is the place to start. We’ve used them both, mostly VRBO. There’s also an Italian service we’ve used twice for Venice, although they offer other places throughout italy - vacanzeinfamiglia.it . You can switch the Website to English, instead of Italian. It was down just now when I looked, so I can’t guarantee that they had Orvieto listings, but definitely check out those 3 for lots of listings.

We stayed here in 2016. Owners wonderful, location perfect, they even had a parking space (for a small fee) we could use at the top of the town). It shows no availability for April, but since March is completely open, it appears they just don't have booking that far in advance. I would contact them (and ask for a 30 day discount as well). Enjoy!

Thank you all for your response and advice. I will definitely look into the ones you all recommended. I have looked at both Airbnb and Vrbo but it’s so much more helpful when I get advice from people that have had personal knowledge and experience staying at specific ones. So thank you very much to those of you who recommended places from personal experience. It is highly appreciated. I’m flexible with my dates which makes it a bit easier to find a the perfect place.😊

Hi, yes I have research the requirements from the Italian consulate. I understand I can not overstay 90 days in a 180 day period. Than you

For Schengen purposes it’s a good idea to not plan exactly 90 days. If something was to happen, such as illness, injury, flight problems, etc., and you don’t leave by day 90 you could find yourself in some trouble.

April is the beginning of prime travel time in Italy, so many of the apartments listed on AirBnB etc. may already have taken reservations for short-tern stays in April and May that will make them unavailable for an 80- day stay.

I suggest you consider booking one month at a time. It means moving from one apartment to another after the month, but you will find many more options.

Note that many apartments are also listed on booking.com, so you can use that for a quick overview of what is available. I just searched for the month of March and it came up with 143 options, ranging in price fro $2000-$4000.

I have had good e experiences renting apartments in Italy for short stays on booking.com.

Look carefully at the cancellation policies—-they will vary between the websites. AirBnB generally has a very onerous cancellation policy for monthly rentals—-like you cannot cancel unless you do so within 48 hours of booking. I have faced this on several occasions here in the US. But maybe it doesn’t apply to European rentals.

It was a wonderful apartment. Very clean, spacious and a fully equipped kitchen. The bathroom was large, and the apartment is ground floor so no stairs to climb. Owner was wonderful and easy to work with. Great communication. We booked it through booking.com, but you can call him directly and see what rate you could get. 2 minute walk to main square and near the grocery store.

I like Lolas’ suggestion of booking 2 separate places or one month at a time. Orvieto may not be large, but you will discover different things if you stay in two different areas. As she suggested, it might be easier to get the rentals. Airbnb now has a split rental option that comes up if available-spend x amount of time in one and move to the other for the remaining, so that might cut some research.
Booking.com is a very good place to search.
Good luck, you lucky person.

I like looking at what might be a solution when people post. On airbnb, I plug in filters that matter to me: washer, private bathroom, entire place, wi-fi, bed, bedroom and bathroom. Right now there is a place that comes up available for April and May called The Lodge. Looks wonderfully located and looks like quite a nice property. Has a fully equipped kitchen also. I didn’t read the House Rules, but there often isn’t anything surprising there. Price would be very much in line with what I would expect to pay per month.
Otherwise, there are a few options that come up with the split housing icon.
It does look like between booking.com and airbnb, there are not many options left so you might be wise to make a decision soon.
