We're hoping to see some live music while in either Oritiga or Taormina this May, preferably outdoors if possible. I've read posts on other forums from MANY years ago mentioning seeing live music, but curious if anyone has had any recent experiences.

Many years ago (like, 25!) we saw Madame Butterfly performed outdoors in Taormina one evening. It was magical. The setting and singers were wonderful but my favorite part was watching the very elderly gentleman seated on the hay bale to one side of us. He had the score and a little flashlight and although he would occasionally glance at the stage he was following word for word! It was so crowded and everyone so dressed up (despite the hay bales) and it was also memorable to leave the performance caught up in the crowd as they moved down the hill. As an American and not that "into" opera it was a glimpse into the cultural aspect.
I hope you can attend something!
