Liquor

I know that wine will be flowing in Italy, but I've never been there before and was wondering if you can get other types of alcohol like cocktail drinks? Is that hard to find there?

Capri spritzer is popular but I just had a Gin and tonic tonight and rum and coke last night. they call it a cuba libre. really depends on the resturant you are in what they serve.

Ok so you can get other types of alcohol then, you're not just limited to wine. That's good to know. Sometimes wine doesn't agree with my stomach. Erica

Erica, A nice drink, particularly on a warm day, is a Negroni. It is equal parts Gin, Campari, and Martini Rosso (sweet vermouth), usually with an orange garnish. Of course, that's a lot of booze, so savor it and drink it slowly. Another nice drink (though a dryer flavor) is a Campari and Soda (they are so popular here that they sell them premixed in little bottles, and even the bars often pour it out of those premade bottles). This would be a lot lighter on the alcohol content. Apart from those types of drinks, they of course have very lovely apertifs (before dinner) and digestifs (after dinner) drinks here, among which are Sambuca, Amaro, Grappa, Limoncello, Campari and similar (such as Aperol, Cynar, etc.), etc. etc. etc. Many places also have typical American things like Jack Daniels, Bacardi, etc. Take care.

By the way, I always ask for a good amount of ice. My experience is that they don't give you enough if you really want a cold drink so I ask for a bit more.

Ditto Bryan and Michael - I may have even returned home with a few of those (full) Compari and Soda bottles on my last trip...;-) If you develop a liking for bitter-flavored drinks, you'll be very happy there! FYI - If you want a 'martini' with vodka, be very clear when ordering; otherwise, you're going to get the Martini-branded vermouth, sweet or dry...Although I think the vermouths are quite yummy, they ain't vodka. I suggest you start prepping for your trip now ;-)
