Liquid rules in Italian airports

What are current, 2025, liquid rules in Italian and, sorry for the add on, Nice, France airports? Are they varied from airport to airport or do they follow the overall USA 3-1-1 rules? Are we strick enough for European airports? What is recommended for Rick Steve's Tours?

I can't remember, mascara is considered a liquid, yes? Eyeliner? Eyebrow liner? How do you get enough sunscreen on a plane to last a 23 day trip? Lotion?

Thank you for answering my worrisome detailed questions!

How do you get enough sunscreen on a plane to last a 23 day trip?

  1. Put it in your checked bag.
  2. Buy it once you arrive.

I have allergies to a lot of skin/hair products. I also am a carry on gal. I use the Eucerin SPF 30 and decant into a 3 oz size container. That is enough for my face and hands for a month's trip. IF I were having to cover other body parts I would be able to purchase in a pharmacy in Italy or France as I'm not as sensitive there. I also buy LaRochePosay tinted SPF moisturizer once I get to France where it is a lot cheaper.

Yes, Italy and France go by the 3-1-1 rule. Use a quart ziplock bag, not a plastic pouch that is marked "TSA compliant" because many of those aren't. IF you want to use one of the plastic pouches, put your liquids IN a ziplock and then into the pouch. The heavy plastic pouches sit up better on a hotel counter so I think that is why many use them. Some airports have installed new equipment meaning you do not have to take out your liquids. I err on the side of caution and have everything set to be pulled out and if not then that's easier for me.

The only thing I've ever had happen at a France airport (CDG in Paris) is when I pulled out my quart ziplock and showed it to the security guy he nodded and waved me thru.

The TSA page says mascara is considered a liquid but I am sure half the population who travels with it has gotten thru security with it accidentally stuck in their personal items. Since it's listed as a liquid, I'm sure the same would be considered for eye and brow liners unless you use a pencil or powder for those.

I buy lotion in Europe or use what is in the hotel bathroom's free selection.

"Liquids carried in the aircraft cabin such as aerosols, drinks, toothpaste, cosmetic creams or gels must be carried in a transparent plastic bag - maximum capacity 1 litre - and no container may hold more than 100 ml. Liquid containers larger than 100 ml must be placed in checked baggage. The volume restriction does not apply to medicines and baby food."

Thank you! This helps a lot. I'm a LaRoche Posay gal so having reassurance I can simply purchase the same is, well, reassuring. My travel partner is turning me into a carry-on traveler. My eyeliner is pencil, eyebrow likely as well. Options crossover these days.
So does sunscreen. If mascara is a liquid stick sunscreen must be as well.

Does TSA pre check "count" in Europe? How about Global Entry?

Appreciate the link!

What you can do in the UK is order suncream, or anything else, online from Boots (large drugstore which has branches in all airports) and pick it up airside. Might be worth checking if this type service is available where you are.

TSA rules apply to the US not Europe. Not quite sure what your question is regarding RS tours but they don’t regulate the liquids you bring if that’s what you’re asking.

No on both counts. They are US government programs.
