Lines in Siena?

Good Morning,

We will be in Siena on 12 October. Last night we found that one of my stepsons will be able to join us. We booked our tickets for the complex a few months ago. Last night & this morning, the site hasn't wanted to cooperate with me. Are there long lines at the Cathedral to purchase tickets? I'm curious if we can just wait & get his the day we are there or if we should keep trying. I'm already bummed we have to have him stand in line to get his ticket for the Accademia in Florence. I tried to book him in our time slot last night & they are sold out (although hubby says he's seen David twice, he doesn't need to see him a 3rd time).

Thanks!

Same in june. No lines. So you know, when you face the cathedral, the place you purchase the tickets is on your right, just behind.

I have visited the Cathedral half a dozen times and there has never been a line of any significance. Maybe half a dozen people.

We were there 2 days ago and the line-up was less than 5 minutes long. In addition to the Duomo we also went to the Santa Maria della Scala Museum which you access through the building where you purchase tickets. It made the trip to Siena worthwhile. Make sure you get the audioguide - it's extremely informative and keyed to play in each area you visit. This building was a hospital and has been turned into a museum about the hospital and life in Siena as well as an archeological museum. You enter on the level of the Duomo and end up 4 levels below in 700 BC. If we had only visited the Duomo in Siena it would have been an OK day trip but this museum made our day in Siena one of the highlights so far (2 out of 4 weeks in Italy). But best of all? We saw fewer than 6 other visitors the entire 2 hours we were there. Such a difference to the masses in other parts of Siena.

My son was just in Siena last week and he said the crowds were very thin there - no lines, lots of locals, great atmosphere.

We were at the cathedral yesterday around 1 pm and walked right up and purchased our tickets. There are tour groups around, but not crowded. Definitely pay the extra 10Euro for the video/audio tablet to take with you around the cathedral. You do learn a lot and it makes it more interesting.

I second Kas' recommendation. The museum is enormous, so plan adequate time.

Thank you for your comments / recommendations.

The tickets I purchased a few months ago include the museum, so I'm happy to know that it's highly recommended!
