Hi — I’m trying to decide whether to add a visit to St Peter’s to our upcoming (May) 5 day Rome visit. We were in Rome 10 years ago and visited both the Vatican and the Basilica. We enjoyed our Vatican tour but see no need to deal with crowds for a return visit. However, I remember how beautiful the Basilica was, and am debating returning there. Can anyone tell me about the wait time to get in very early in the morning? 7:00 a.m.? 8:00 a.m.? I’m thinking about our final day in Rome, which is a Friday. Would want to be back in Centro Storico by 10:45 for an 11:00 a.m.check out. We’ve got tickets on a 1:00 p.m. train. Don’t want to schedule a tour in advance because we already have a lot scheduled and I’d prefer to keep this optional. Is it doable? Thanks!
We were there last week and the line at 7am was minimal, by 8am it was 15 times the original if not more; according to our guide it would be a 1-hr queue. Bear in mind the weather in May will be quite warm already so I'd say the earlier the better for sure.
Hi Piplegtoo,
Do you recall the temperature when you were there?
Ruth, did you end up going? If so, how hot was it, when did you arrive and how long was your wait?
We are thinking of going early in the morning on Saturday, May 18, 2024
Thank you for your reply. And thanks Ruth for the original question.
Best regards,
Cheri
