Linate or Malpensa

It's been a while since anyone inquired about the difference about these two airports in Milan... Linate or Malpensa. I have never been to Milan and am looking at flight options, Linate appears to be slightly cheaper. I'd appreciate any feedback - thanks!

If you want to avoid the low-cost Ryanair travellers, fly into Linate 😉.
What’s more, you can reach the city centre in about 12 to 20 minutes by direct metro or bus.
From Malpensa, it takes 45 to 55 minutes by the Malpensa Express train or a shuttle bus.

We were very happy with Linate for our 2025 trip- it's much closer to town. Have a great trip!

When you think of Milan Linate (LIN) and Milan Malpensa (MXP), the best comparison is with Washington’s Reagan National Airport (DCA) and Washington’s Dulles (IAD).

In both cases the former (LIN and DCA) is a city airport, smaller, very manageable, very close to the city center, but in both cases they do not handle intercontinental transatlantic flights.

In both cases the latter (MXP or IAD) are large, very far from the city center, but they handle long distance intercontinental transatlantic flights.

So if given a choice, I’d rather fly to Linate, because it’s small, easy to navigate, and only 5 miles from the city center, therefore minutes away by taxi or metro. In your case, if your flight is cheaper to Linate (usually it isn’t since business travelers prefer Linate), then for sure I would choose Linate.

However if you want to fly direct from North America or Asia, then intercontinental flights are only at Malpensa.
