There is now a metro line (Blue) from San Babila station to Linate, so you could stay in the city unless you have a short night and being closer is easier.

Linate is 5 miles East of the city center. Any taxi can take you there in 20-25 min from anywhere in the city center. So anyplace in the city center would work.

What Roberto said. We will be flying out of Linate in September, and have booked a hotel close to Milano Centrale, so we can walk to our hotel from our train. We will take a taxi from the station to the airport in the morning.

This way we can enjoy our last night in Italy with a sightseeing walk and a nice dinner in Milan, rather than throw away a night in a charmless airport hotel.

Lola, which hotel in central city did you stay at near linate airport?

Hotel Berna. It is near Milano Centrale station, not near Linate. We can walk to the hotel from the train station, then take a cab to the airport in the morning. Much easier than dealing with the Metro for us.
