Limited time in Florence & Venice

We leave Rome on 9/19 and have until Thurs afternoon 9/24 when we fly out of Venice to return home. How should we divide that time between Florence and Venice?
Confused,

Counting the 19th but not the 24th, I count 5 days. The average time allocated to Florence by travelers here is 2 days; although some people try to "do" Florence in one day and afficionados spend 4 days or more. The average time given to Venice, by people reporting in here, is about the same, 2 or 3 days.

So, how about splitting the time approximately evenly? That can be accomplished by arriving in Florence in mid or late morning on the 19th by train from Rome; and departing Florence for Venice mid-day on the 21st. Technically, that's 2 nights Florence and 3 nights Venice but will result in approximately an equal amount of actual time on the ground (to do and see stuff) in each place.

Having said that, I'll add that travelers with a deep interest in Italian Renaissance art would probably do 3 nights Florence and 2 nights Venice. But since you're flying out on the 24th (the usual flights out of Venice are at an excruciatingly early time of the morning), you'll want to think carefully about how to avoid not giving yourself enough time in Venice.
