Lighting in Colosseum Underground?

I have browsed many posts about the Colosseum Underground tour, but haven’t seen any info as to whether it is well lit or somewhat darkened area? We saw the Colosseum a few years ago, and I’d like to expand that experience. But I have low vision due to glaucoma. Most museums have low lighting, understandably to protect the treasured works, but difficult for me to see artworks or details - and even challenging to see where I’m stepping. Nowadays I prefer outdoor historic sites or larger than life works. Better than museums. So would Underground do or not?

Sharon,
I was there last month and I just looked at my photos to see if my memory is correct. I think you will be OK. There are a few passageways that are darker, but many are open to the sky with only some arches in place. Many of the walkways are now reconstructed in steel, so you're not walking on uneven surfaces. If you want to PM me, maybe I can figure out a way to share some photos to you so you can make a better decision. I hope you get to see it.

It wasn’t very dark, but we were there on a very sunny day, However, you have to do it with a guide, so you could let the guide know about your vision issues, and I’m sure they would take care to lead you through any potentially problematic areas.

Thank you, Ruth and BB, for your responses. That reassures me! I will give it a go, when ticket window opens for March trip. This forum is always helpful!
