Lido di Ostia - Any information on this town?

I am considering staying in Lido di Ostia the day before flying out of FCO (Rome airport). Instead of staying at a hotel right by the airport, which are really expensive or not so nice, I was hoping to stay on the coast. This town looks like a nice beach town, but there is not too much info on it...has anyone stayed there? It is also close to Ostia Antica (RS recommendation)which we would like to tour as well. The town seems to be convenient to the airport as well. We would have a car, so we would return the car to aiport the morning of our flight back to the US.
Any help would be appreciated.

That will work. Go to viamichelin.com, click Tourism tab at top, input location, select Hotel or Restaurant, it will display Michelin picks--slick website for hotels & restaurants throughout Europe.

It is exactly what you say it is: a beach town with private beaches (which you can get into for a fee) and restaurants and pizzerias and hotels up and down the lungomare. If you want to spend a day at the beach it can be a nice place to go, Ostia antica is further inland but worth visiting.

Our family just returned from spending 5 days at a lovely apartment in Lido di Ostia. It is where the "locals" live and a short 30 minute train ride into Rome. We enjoyed staying away from the hustle and bustle of Rome and living with the locals, shopping at the grocery, fruit stands, walking the beach area, etc. We didn't use the airports but understand that they are nearby. Excellent! Thanks for the info. I haven't been able to find much information on Lido. I did read some where that the town may be a bit depressed and one review on trip advisor regarding a local hotel mentioned the area was not too safe. I'm glad to here about your experiences. We are looking for a relaxing last 1/2 day and night in Italy before we end our trip and also try to make getting to the airport a bit easier than training in from Rome in the early morning.
