Liberation Day, Rome & Amalfi coast

My girlfriend and I are taking 23 days in April to see Milan, Venice, the Cinque Terre, Lucca. Florence, Tuscany & Umbria.

If we added 7-8 days post-Easter, would that give us enough time to do either Rome+Pompeii or Rome+Pompeii+Amalfi Coast sanely? Also, what impact would the April 25 holiday have on travel?

We'd be coming from Orvieto beforehand, and flying from Rome to Barcelona afterward

Thanks!

Easter, April 20th, and, if in Rome, the canonization of John Paul on April 27th will be a much larger impact. May 1st is also a major holiday. I would expect Rome to be incredibly crowded from April 16th through May 2nd or 3rd. We changed our travel plans because of these activities.

From April 17 to May 3 it will be the busiest time of the year for tourism. 25 April has major impact every year because people are off that day and May 1 also (Labor Day around the world outside North America). This year is worse because of Easter being close too (the day after Easter, Monday 21 April, is a national religious holiday too).

Yes you have enough time... but look for a room soon. There is a hotel-room shortage warning for Rome for much of the month of April. Try VRBO.com, Booking.com, airbnb, etc. Good luck!

You could easily split the time between Rome and Sorrento. From the latter you can "do" the A.C. and Pompeii most easily. Or you can completely occupy yourself in Rome for a week. As we say, Roma, una vita non basta!

Yes, you have time with the extra days. Sounds like a great trip.

Thank you everyone for the feedback.

We decided to save Rome for a future Sicily and Southern Italy trip. However we're still adding the extra week for a real "back door" experience-- the Palio della Rana (Running of the Frogs!!!) in Fermignano. Looks like a great time!

I'll post new itinerary in another post-- would welcome any ideas for filling 3 days between Assisi and Urbino, We'll have a car, and are thinking about a coastal loop from Pescara to Ancono, Rimini or Ravenna.

Thanks!
