Liberation Day in Italy

Our trip may coincide with Italy's Liberation Day. What is it like throughout Italy on this national holiday? I know what services are open/closed but can't get an idea of the general atmosphere and crowds. We will either be in Venice or Cinque Terra. I'm just starting to plan our itinerary, flights, and days we'll take a train to a new destination. Thanks for your help.

Where will you be, exactly? Rome has some observances, including a flyover by the Italian Air Force, but it won't impact typical tourist locations, restaurants, etc. In residential neighborhoods there may be some closures, but frankly I cannot remember any store closures on that day from the time we lived in Rome. I think buses were on a holiday schedule, thought.

Liberation Day in 2024 is on Thursday, April 25th. It appears that, if the timing is right, families make it part of a long weekend and head to the beaches. From what I've read, it also seems like it could be an interesting time to be in Italy.

I was in Palermo this past April 25th, and saw no difference whatsoever to any other day there.
Everything was open, buses were on a “Feria”, holiday , schedule….that was about it.

We were in Catania for this this year. Public transit was closed, and most shops and grocery stores were, too. Restaurants were open! We stayed in the city and just strolled around, as our AirBnB host urged us to avoid any beaches or other tourist areas, as that's where the locals flock to enjoy the day off.

We were on the Amalfi Coast for Liberation Day 2022. The traffic was gridlocked - but from what I hear that was business as usual. Ravello didn't seem crowded at all. Positano looked like a beehive from the water.

A few years earlier, we were in Bologna on Liberation Day - absolute chaos.

We were in Tuscany last year on April 25 and it was incredibly crowded. Everywhere we went. Everything appeared to be open and we took the train.
