LF Monterosso, Cinque Terrer estaurant recommendation

Hello,
I will be in Monterosso this summer and would like a recommendation for a restaurant. We will be arriving close to 7:00 p.m. so I want to make a reservation in advance. One person in my family has celiac disease and needs a gluten free meal (although that is probably not hard to find) and I have two teenagers. Does anyone have suggestions of places that might be nice for a family. Mid price range ideally.

Also we are staying about a 10 minute walk down to the village on Monterosso al Mar at La Cabana. Thank you, Carol

For dinner with a view in the new town, reserve outside seating at La Cantina di Miky. Their fish and chips, made with fresh local fish, might be a big hit with your teenagers. Everything I saw served looked delicious. For something quieter (no view) in the old town, I really enjoyed Via Venti. Excellent food and service. Not certain about either restaurant's gluten free options, but you can always inquire if you decide to contact them about a reservation.

Thank you Frank and Charlie. I will be sure to check out both of these restaurants while there. Carol

Carol,

I'm not sure how many of the restaurants in Monterosso take reservations. I've never had any problem just showing up, although there might be a short wait until a table is available. I'm also not sure which ones will have gluten free options. Most of the Pasta will probably be wheat based. If you can find one with gluten-free pasta, Trofie al Pesto would a good dish to try. At that time of night, all the restaurants will be busy.

The two suggestions in earlier posts are excellent. Cantina di Miky is a big favourite with many on the forum (including me). Belvedere is a larger restaurant but also very busy at times. Don't be too concerned about the occasional rumbling noises there (the train tracks pass over top of the restaurant).

Another that you could try is L' Alta Marea which is part way up Via Roma in the old town. They have a small outdoor patio and more seating inside. For Panini and other lunch items, try Fast Bar which is also in the old town. Their Linkin Park Panino is one of my favourites! You might find it really busy and crowded if there's a soccer match on!

For a "splurge" you could also try Hotel Porto Roca which is at the far end of the old town (they probably take reservations). The views from there are spectacular! Another splurge is Ristorante Miky which is at the far end of the new town (operated by the same family as the Cantina). It's more "upscale", the menu is more seafood oriented, and they may also take reservations.

Buon Viaggio!

I really love Trattoria da Oscar. It is a little off the main strip in old town but it was amazing every time. The first time I went I had the amazing seafood risotto and was disappointed it wasn't on the menu the 2nd time we visited... after chatting with the waitress (I believe the owners daughter) she asked how long we are staying and made it the special 2 nights later. I don't know about reservations -- but worth a stop any night.
