Levanto-anyone stayed there recently?

I am staying in Levanto at a B and B that is about a mile walk to the train station (each way). That is a long walk for me with an ankle that likes to go unstable some times.

However, I would like to head out in the early morning to take photos in Manarola, Vernazza and Riomaggiore. No shopping, no eating just photos. I noticed trains do run very early. Then, come back to my B and B to change clothes and then go back to all the Villages, working my way south to north, to shop and then eventually have early dinner/shop in Monterosso, coming back to the B and B around 8pm.

I asked the B and B that I am staying at if there was a bus I could take to the train station, from the train station, etc. He said the only way was taxi. However, when I look on Google Maps at Levanto, I see little bus icons all over. I admit I do not see a bus icon immediately next to the B and B or immediately next to the train station but I see these icons close to the B and B and to the train station. Wish I could do a screen cap to show you all what I mean.

Has anyone stayed in Levanto and do you know if buses exist? Any idea how I can find out about bus transportation? I tried the commune website but it is all in Italian. I read on Trip Advisor that a taxi in Levanto is a flat 10 Euro fee no matter where you travel in the city. Can anyone verify if this is true? How easy is it to get a cab in Levanto? Is it safe?

I might be willing to pay 10 Euros for a ride to the station in the early AM and then back to the B and B at night (20 Euros) as long as I know cabs there are safe and reliable. I am a middle aged female traveling solo.

Hi lisa. We've stayed in Levanto twice, last time was four years ago. It's a pleasant town, we enjoyed staying there. Relatively small, walkable; but big enough to have many restaurant, etc. choices. I don't recall seeing any buses; I would trust the advice of your B&B in that regard. Based on our experience, you will feel completely safe. Enjoy your trip!

Click on the bus icon on Google maps to see the routes and times. Bus works well to travel without car up into the villages in the hills.

It would usually be worthwhile to go in person to the Tourist Information office (expect reduced hours off-season). The map in Rick's book shows an "i" at Piazza Mazzini, although the commune web site directs you to the town hall at Piazza Cavour. Also, among online maps, www.viamichelin.com has some info that Google maps doesn't; Google maps is more complete in big cities than it is around the Cinque Terre.
