Hello team,
I make things easy I wanted to buy on line the train tickets from Da Vinci airport to Rome. The price is the same but they ask for the time. My question, is that ticket only good for that time? Or can I use it even on the next train? I am arriving March 9.
There is free wifi at FCO, get your ticket either at the arrivals or while waiting for your stuff.
While I usually like to have transportation nailed down, we bought our Leonardo Express tickets from a machine at the airport. It was super easy.
We got our tickets last October right in the terminal, after landing and going through passport control. There was a bank of red vending machines on the right, at the end of luggage carousels, and less than 100 yards before the exit doors. A uniformed employee helped us buy the tickets. Really easy, and as we were headed for the next departing Leonardo train, there was no question about the timing.
How many in your party? A taxi may not cost that much more and provide delivery to the hotel.
We had always bought our Leonardo Express train tickets at the airport upon arrival at FCO, but decided to buy them online once. We got to the train earlier than expected, and were told that we had to wait until the time shown on our tickets. After standing around a while and missing one train, one of the staff let us board the next train, even though it wasn't the departure time shown on our tickets.
Thank you for your responses. The vote is in and everyone said it is too easy to buy the tickets after you get your language. We are 2, so I will check the cost of the taxi. The nun's pensione is by St Peter's, so technically not in the wall of Rome. I will have to check on the cost, but a good idea. Thanks, Jim
If you are staying by St. Peter's, you will still have to get across town from Stazione Termini where the Leonardo Express terminates to your pensione.
It might make better sense to get to your accommodation by taxi.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge about taxis from FCO to the Vatican. The list sent by mont3589 was so clear. I hope anyone flying into Rome has a copy of it. It sure would be a worry free ride by taxi. That alone is worth it.
Thanks so much, Jim
James, unfortunately for those who trusted/will trust that link:
- the fixed fares have changed, but they did not update the list
- tipping is not prohibited or mandatory... because it would be ridiculous. More or less as stupid as tipping a lawyer. Or a family physician
- the drivers approaching tourists at the arrivals are not unlicensed drivers. They are NCC limo drivers (check on the back of their cars) whose customers never showed up at the arrivals. Even if they pretend there was a no-show and they are breaking the rules, writing on the Internet that you wouldn't be covered by an insurance is just wrong. Just tell 'em you'll be happy to pay € 45 (per car) by CC and see what happens.
- contrary to what's written on that page, the risk of electronic frauds is close to zero these days. Even worse, it's the opposite: paying with a credit card is the best way to avoid dishonest taxi drivers. The trick is warning them you have no cash before getting on and make it clear by waving your plastic.
- reputable private drivers like those who work for Romecabs do not charge "much more" than the fixed fare. If you are staying in central Rome they usually charge between 5 and 8 Euro more
...and these are just the mistakes I found after a 2 minutes' reading. If I were you I'd either Take the train or get a guide to get better info. They speak well of the books written by a guy named Rick something.
