Is it possible to buy tickets in advance for the Leonardo Express train from Termini to the airport? We have tickets to Termini and would like to be able to simply board a train for the airport rather than stop to purchase tickets at the station. I looked on Trenitalia and could not find FCO on their destination list. Has anyone had experience with this?
It just takes a minute or two to pickup your tickets out of a vending machine with a credit card. Just be sure to get the ticket validated/punched in the yellow boxes on the platform before getting on the train. They do check tickets, and fines for non-validated tickets are over $100--cash on the spot.
If you miss the train you want to get on, another will be leaving shortly.
BJ,
I've never had any problems finding FCO on the Trenitalia website. It's listed as "Fiumicino Aeroporto".
Where are you going to be prior to arriving at Roma Termini? You can easily buy tickets using Kiosks anywhere a day or so before you travel, as the Leonardo Express is operated by Trenitalia. Just be sure to validate the tickets before boarding the train on the day of travel, or you'll risk hefty fines which will be collected on the spot!
The Leonardo Express is run and managed by Trenitalia, it isn't a private line.
If it was a semi-private competitor, like Italo, trenitalia would never publish its schedules at www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en .
For sure you can but any trenitalia ticket at any trenitalia station, plus at travel agencies displaying Trenitalia's logo on the window. Travel agencies can add a small fee on top of the price, on the other hand you'll always find somebody that speaks English.
Today many tobacconists also sell Regionale trains tickets.
Well, this trip(14 June) there was a vending machine in baggage claim that accepted a U.S. chip to purchase the tickets there along with showing the times for the trains. Much easier!
Yes, you can buy advanced tickets on the express train. Just use roma termini and fiumicino aeroporto as your stops. I believe this ticket will be train specific, meaning that if you book the 8:05 train then that is the train you must take.

The Leonardo Express leaves every 30 minutes or so, no reserved seats so you can miss one train and take another.
Thank you! I should have asked on the forum earlier and gotten expert advice! All this time I had been looking for Rome airport instead of Fiumicino airport! Such an easy solution! I appreciate the information.
