Left Luggage and Car Rental in Pisa

Hello. I see some older posts regarding left luggage and car rental in Pisa but not sure they answer my questions/concerns. In mid September, we will be taking the train from Cinque Terre to Pisa to pick up a car for our drive through Tuscany. I know you can leave bags at Pisa Centrale station but it seems there is a Left Luggage at the Pisa Airport according to this reference: http://www.pisa-airport.com/index.php?lang=_en&id_sect=85 But this also says you have to send bags through xray - does that means the regular security line with all the people getting on a plane or just an x-ray at the left luggage desk. So, question for those well traveled in Italy/Pisa: If we wanted to do a quick visit to the Tower of Pisa, which option is best: A) arrive @Pisa Centrale, store bags, visit Tower, pick up bags and then taxi to Hertz in city? or is airport better? or B) train to Pisa Airport, drop bags there, visit Tower, go back to airport to get bags and car? I've gone back and forth on whether Option A or B is better so any experience or advice on this would be much appreciated.

I would suggest taking the train to Pisa Centrale and storing your luggage there and not at the airport. Two reasons. 1) Pisa Centrale has a staffed location. At the airport, you leave your luggage at the Information Office. 2) The cost per bag may be less. We paid 3Euro per bag a couple of years ago and I bet its more now. But, it's 7Euro per bag according to the website you provided. From Pisa Centrale, you head directly to the tower and Field of Miracles and avoid taking the train to the airport at this time. Come back, pick up your luggage and then take the train to the airport for your transition to the Hertz rental car office.

Thanks Larry. Just curious, is getting rental car at the airport easier than at the other location in the city?

I haven't rented from either location but based upon operating hours, I would rent from the airport. The airport rental office is open 08:00-24:00 each day. The other one is closed on Sundays and is also closed from 1300-1500 Mon-Fri and is only open from 08:00-13:00 on Sat. For me, less hours means less size and less choice of cars.
