Does anyone have a hotel or B&B recommendation for Lecce Italy? Thanks.
I enjoyed my stay at the Larala pension. I initially found it on venere.com, where I assume it is still listed and you can read reviews. I see a booking.com logo on the website, too. It seemed quite new as of 2015, and everything worked (Wi-Fi, air conditioning, etc.). Some thought had been given to making the room functional for travelers. For example, there was a plastic coat tree in my bathroom that was very practical for hanging wet laundry.
Despite the "B&B" designation on the website, breakfast is not served, but there are lots of places to grab something within a few blocks.
I found the location quite convenient. It's basically across a public garden from the old part of town and quite near one of the two local tourist offices.
I've forgotten the host's name, but he was very helpful and spoke good English. I was massively delayed on my arrival day because of bus difficulties, and he had no problem meeting me at the site around 10 PM. Note that he does not live on the premises, so it's not like being in a hotel where you can run down to the front desk to get immediate tourism assistance.
We stayed at Il Cortile delle Esperidi, and I can't say enough in its praise. It's located a couple of blocks outside the walls of the old town. It's newly built with underground parking. The breakfast is sumptuous, with many home-made choices. Our room, really an apartment, was spacious, well-equipped, and spotless. The owners are the most welcoming, helpful people you'll ever meet. And, to cap it off, the price was very reasonable.
We stayed at B&B Regina Maria, which you can read about on booking.com, where we booked our stay. It is called B&B but is actually a fairly large apartment with 2 bedrooms. We were only 2 people and rented only one bedroom. We did read that if the apartment is booked for 3 people if you don't request 2 rooms you may get only 1 large room with a queen and a single bed. When we were there the breakfast provided was yogurt, juice, (can't remember if there were eggs), butter, water in the refrigerator. Packaged sweet rolls, crackers, cookies were also provided. The host was very helpful and kind, though he spoke little English we were able to understand. This is a beautiful building in the old town; parking was nearby in a public lot. Restaurants and all sights were within walking distance.
