My husband and I are driving down the Heel of Italy and will be staying in Lecce for a few days. Has anyone stayed at this B&B https://www.vicodellacavallerizza.com/home_en.html, or have any recommendations? I have seen mentioned https://bbesperidilecce.com/cortile/language/en/home-b-and-b-lecce-inn/ but we where hoping to stay in the old part of Lecce, not just outside.
Thank you.
Il Cortile di Esperidi is very close to one of the gates of the old town, perhaps a 5 minute walk. You would have to look far to find hosts more generous and helpful than the folks who own that inn.
Eileen, I have not stayed at either place you mention, but I agree that staying in the old part of the city is optimal. I was there in October and stayed not far from vicodellacavallerizza. There is a convenient and reasonable parking lot nearby on Via Adua and I felt very comfortable leaving my rental car there. Lecce is such a beautiful and fascinating city. Enjoy!
Thank you both, you have helped to confirmed my planes.
You did not say when you are going and you may have already booked a hotel but we'd like to recommend this B&B. We stayed there for 4 nights in early March, 2016. You can read about it on the booking.com site. It is a family run B&B in a historical building located in a piazzetta, two doors down from a great restaurant, and 5 min walk to the historical center. Great hosts as well. There is parking in the piazzetta though it might be hard to find a spot but there is a larger parking lot very nearby.
Wherever you stay you're sure to enjoy Lecce!
Thank you, I will check to see if it is available.
I just spent 4 days in Lecce and I can say with some assurance your car will be a problem. The old town is mostly a vehicle free zone except for LOCAL residents. Also it is VERY tight in many places. While staying in the old town is very nice, we did it on our first stop in Lecce before going on south, we did not stay there when we had a car on our return. So if you can pick up your car after your stay that would be optimal. Otherwise give serious consideration to staying somewhere near one of the Gates.
Also while some of the old town is very quiet at night some of it depending on where you are is definitely NOT.
Having said all that Lecce is a magical place and the old town is stupendously beautiful at night and during the day. We loved it and ate in some great restaurants there. It is one of my favorite cities in Italy for sure.
We stayed at La Bella Lecce B&B in 2013 --- it is inside the walls but pretty near a parking lot outside the walls. We liked it very much and, glancing at Tripadvisor, I see it still gets good reviews. No problem driving to and from the parking lot when we drove to other towns in Puglia.
Also, we were just in Lecce again in late March this year and greatly enjoyed the train museum and eating at a restaurant (just outside the walls) called Trattoria Fiori di Zucca on Via Forlanini. Ate all kinds of interesting local foods such as young wild poppy stems & leaves and wild hyacinth bulbs. Order the house antipasti --- those two things wouldn't be in season any more, but something else will be.
