Leaving tonight..last minute questions

You plan, and plan and plan. You come down the last few hours and keep thinking you missed something. You triple check the passports and the expirations dates. Well, me of course LOL

Anyway, looking over the train tickets and just want to be clear on validating. If I bought Trenitalia tickets ahead of time on Frecciaroassa and Frecciargento trains, and have paper tickets, with bar code, they don't need validating, correct?

Thanks to all that answered questions and gave insight and helped to make our travels smoother!. It is appreciated!

You are correct, plus the paper ticket won't fit in the validation machine.

Enjoy!

In Italy, you ONLY validate Regionale train ticket bought in the station at a window or ticket machine or a local travel agency. Everything else is specific to a train - date and time - with a seat reservation.

Correct! We found that with heightened security we did have to present our paper tickets to attendants at the entry to our Platform (BIN) to allow us onto the platform. Keep that paper handy for when the conductor comes around to scan your ticket on their handheld devices.

Yes you plan and plan but then discover that the best times happen unplanned! Enjoy your trip!

Hope you're having a wonderful time. For others reading this, the basic concept behind validating tickets is to prevent them being used more than once. If the ticket is already restricted as to date and time, you can't use it more than once, so no need to validate.
