any last minute advice for a first timer going to Tuscany and Rome?
We are looking forward to the Greve Wine Festival this Sunday
How exciting for you! We'll also be there the end of the month. My suggestion would be to take it slow and easy. Relax and enjoy yourself. If you have too much planned, it will be too hectic and not a lot of fun. On our last trip, we didn't see as much of Rome and Tuscany as planned. However, I knew we would return. I can't wait to continue our adventure. Have a great time on your trip making lifetime memories.
If you take the train, remember to stamp your ticket in one of the little yellow boxes before you get on. Have a great time.
and if you're driving in Tuscany take a GPS! I'm envious - we were there last year at this time!
Not all train tickets need to be stamped. If they are for a specific train at a specific time they don't need to be so if you're running late or can't find the box don't worry about it. Donna
Ditto to everyone else's suggestions, and just to repeat - please slow down and SEE Tuscany and Rome. Don't just race from one 'thing' to another - I've been guilty of that, and it's tempting to do, but enjoy the place and the moment, too! That's every bit as important to why you're there as the 'things' are...
Talk to the locals, especially if they speak English! Or if you speak Italian!
We are leaving in two weeks, first time for us, and I am so excited!!! Enjoy, maybe we will cross paths! Ciao
My advice is to eat gelato at least twice a day & try all the different flavors! You will be doing so much walking that you'll burn off the calories! Hubby & I miss the gelato & this past weekend we found a so-called "gelato" place near our house & tried it. It wasn't anything like the true Italian gelato & it made us long to be back in Italy strolling around at night with a gelato in hand. Have a wonderful trip. We were also in Italy this time last year & I'm longing to return.
Be prepared for the different pace and attitude, especially if you are used to hitting the ground running when you travel. In Italy, it's more like "hit the ground strolling aimlessly". :) Have fun.
Thanks Brad, will be interesting with a guy from Boston pace
Hi, I am right there with you. Leaving Monday for my first trip to Italy. I will be spending my first 4 nights in San Gimignano. Can't wait.
NICE!!! we will be in Castellina from Saturday to Thursday, then off to Rome
Have a great time! Im going in the second week of october for the first time and maybe you can give me a few pointers when you get back. ENJOY!
Have a great trip! As Denise stated above be sure to have some down time to just take it slow and easy! Eat lots of pizza and gelato!! You will have a great time. Buon Viaggio!! Do remember to validate your train tkts!! Saw many people getting fined on the trains when there in July 2009!
