Can anyone tell me - does the Doge's Secret itineraries tour
include the 'regular' Doge tour? In other words, do we need to sign up for both of them?
Also, is there a particular time that anyone would recommend to us....are the tours in English, or do we need to rent an audio thingie or something?
AND....i forgot to ask if we could book that tour now, before we go?
I also read about getting a ticket to St. Mark's Basilica, but I've also read that it's free, so I'm confused (again). duh!
THANKS for clearing this up for us.
Yes, the Secret Itineraries Tour includes entrance into the general areas of the Doges Palace. You can pre-book tickets (in English, Italian, French) at this site:

I would highly recommend pre-booking your tickets for this tour. You can also reserve a time for free entrance into the Basilica San Marco at this site: http://www.basilicasanmarco.it/WAI/eng/visite/interne/prenotazioni.bsm
Although sometimes I can't get the sight to work. Yes, the Basilica is free admission, but once inside if you want to go to "special" areas then there is a fee.
When you enter the Doge's palace for Tour, you can rent an audio guide (self-guided tour) for the regular Doge tour. (Can't remember if Secret Itinerary tour was also on it or not.) The audio guide was pretty good. FYI..if you listen to every entry, the regular tour will take you several hours. (Took me about 3+ hours without the Secret Itineries tour & I started rushing thru the guide towards the end.)
The Secret Itineraries tour is not with an audioguide, but with a live person. That's because they will not let you wander through these special rooms unattended.
