We have to be back in Malpensa by Sunday or Monday ideally to catch flight back to US. But today is Monday, almost and I am trying to decide. I don't think I want to stay in Rome past 3 days. But?!! Any suggestions from people who actually were in my shoes? This will help me narrow it down. Any ideal hotels that you favored in those areas? So far we have been getting by with 88-120 euros a night from Milan, Venice to Rome.

Monique, Sorrento is certainly one possibility. Another option would be to start "working your way back" towards Milano and MXP, spending some time in Umbria or Tuscany. There are LOTS of possibilities on towns to visit - Orvieto, Siena, other hill towns. Cheers!

Monique, I agree with Ken. You could work your way back and stop off in various towns in Umbria & Tuscany along the way. I would definitely stop in Orvieto, Siena & Volterra. Alternatively, you could spend a few days in Lake Como (Varenna, Bellagio, etc.). You said that you don't want to stay in Rome past 3 days...I'm guessing this isn't your first time in Rome because there is so much to do there that I could easily spend a few weeks there. You could also stay in Rome and take some nice day trips to Ostia Antica, Orvieto, Hadrian's Villa, etc and then take the train to Milan the night before your departure. You really have a lot of options just depending on your tastes. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
