Leaving rental car in hertz lot in florence overnight

Hi All, I am picking up hertz car at the Florence borgo ognissanti 137r location Friday 31mar and dropping off at Orvieto same day. Will have the car from about 8am pickup to 6pm drop off . Our main goal is to do Rick's Heart of Tuscany drive and see what else we can. I am wondering if a good idea to pick up of the car the night prior to avoid morning delays. it costs about the same. My question is do you think hertz would let me then leave the car in the lot/ramp overnight, I do not want to drive it till morning when we leave. Or if I must move it to another parking lot, any suggestions on the easiest place, I have read about ZTL issues. Since I am already in the ZTL (I think?) can I freely move the car within it. I assume this would be same if I rent hertz through auto Europe or directly with hertz. Thanks anyone for your thoughts and suggestions.

It seems to me that is what we did. Our rental was for 2 days but we left the car in their lot overnight. Email them directly to be sure - it was a few years ago when we did it.

Thanks so much Christi, I will give it a try. And if that doesn't work, I will check with our hotel near the duomo to ask their suggestions too.

The Hertz on Borgo Ognissanti is inside a private 4 story parking structure called Garage Europa, from which Hertz (and most other rental companies) rents the space. Private cars can also park in the same parking structure. They can accommodate over 300 cars inside. So even if Hertz doesn't want to keep your car after you rent it, you can still park it in the same parking structure (at a fee of course). You might need to move it to another floor not occupied by the rental companies, but you can park it there in the exact same garage.
They charge 2€ for the first hour and 3€ per hour after that, up to a max of 24€ for the full 24 hours.

How much earlier than 8 AM would you get out the next morning?
if the goal is to see Sunrise somewhere in the middle of Tuscany and you plan on being out before 5 AM I could understand but otherwise seems not worth the extra hassle to go to that location twice and/or pay for parking.

I would be surprised if you could do this without paying for the parking overnight.

EDIT: When you pickup the car you pickup it up on the street, one of their employees drives it out of the garage so don't see how it would be possible to take possession/inspect the car without it coming out of the garage or at the very least you are not driving it out when the office is closed. Once out of the garage you definitely would have to pay to park it back in their into your own parking spot so you could leave before the rental office opens.

You are correct that once in that ZTL you cannot get charged for being in it ; but it is easy driving to leave one ZTL and then you would be charged going back into the same one or a into different ZTL zone so don't advise driving the car around Florence looking for parking.

Most likely picking up a car and heading away from town you will be avoiding much of the rush hour commute since you are going the opposite way.

Thank you mreynolds, it's really helpful to know what to expect when we pick up the car. Still thinking this out, and grateful to all for sharing your knowledge and time. No matter what we decide, we are now confident we won't have any big surprises and can start out on a good note.
