Hi there,
I would love to see the Royal Palace of Caserta, and I'm figuring out the best way to do this.
We will be staying in Sorrento and travelling back to Rome the night before we fly home to NZ.
I saw there are a few high speed trains that go direct from Caserta to Rome, so I was wondering if it would be a good idea to book a transfer from our hotel in Sorrento to Caserta, leave our luggage at the luggage check at the palace while we look around the palace and grounds, then jump on the train from Caserta to Rome.
I asked the car company about this plan and they didn't think there were any high speed trains available. Also everything I see online about going to Caserta says to go via Naples.
Travelling from Caserta direct to Rome doesn't seem to be something people usually do, and I'm wondering if there is a reason for this! It might not be the convenient solution I'm looking for.
If anyone has experience travelling direct from Caserta to Rome, or leaving luggage at the palace, please let me know.
Any suggestions much appreciated!
Many thanks,
Rebecca
The Trenitslia schedule shows a Frecciargento train that goes from Caserta directly to Rome at 10:48 and another at 11:48, both with no changes on the way. The journey takes one hour 7 or 8 minutes.
I am surprised the car service company would not know about this. But do you want to do this all in one day? You would need a much later departure. I didn’t think to look for an afternoon departure—- I will do that now.
Edit: ok, there are more Frecce trains at 15:45 and at 17:46, arriving in Rome around an hour later. After that there is an IC train that requires no changes but it takes 2.5 hours. Then a much later Frecce train departing around 21:45.
Thanks Lola,
Yes - I'm looking at taking an afternoon train - Italo also have one running in the afternoon direct to Rome. I'm just wondering if the logistics work with leaving our luggage at the Royal Place of Caserta - I've been to Versailles and wouldn't want to rock up there with all my luggage - would be a logistical nightmare!
It would be great if would work out though - saves backtracking and we could get car transfer straight from Sorrento to the Palace.
We have planned two trips with an overnight stop in Caserta to see the palace and also the nearby historic silk factory, but the logistics are not easy. In the end we had to cancel both trips (2020 and 2022). So we haven’t actually been there and I don’t know the answer to your luggage storage problem.
If I can figure out a solution I will let you know.
