Seeking recommendations for purchase of my final leather jacket. Will be in Pisa next month and always happy to jump on a train to Florence for the day. Looking for a quality shop using Italian leather, rather than saving a few bucks for one from a market. Prefer classic designs to trendy. TIA.
A few years ago I was on the V/F/R tour and when we got to Florence several of us were looking for a jacket. Our guide recommended Massimos, and a number of us bought jackets there. He gave us a discount when he found out we were on a RS tour. He had a great selection, and all made in Italy.
darylrc, use the Search window (its hard to see) at the top of this page (on a computer; in the menu on a phone) and put in "Leather florence" and you'll get a ton of prior threads on the subject. Narrow it down to the "forum" and then by age and you'll get a manageable number of threads to look through. Lots of suggestions.
Thank you Anita and Stan.
I have a leather jacket from "John F Firenze" that is over twenty years old and is still in great condition, although admittedly I don't wear it that often
When I was in my 30s I tried on a strapless red leather dress in a leather shop in Florence! I should have bought it. Hubby wanted me to. I thought it was too form fitting 🤭
We bought a couple of jackets from a guy in a car in Rome. 50 euros each, amazing bargain.
It would appear that the skins of some polyvinyl chlorides were tanned and the leather used to make those jackets.
Note to self. If it is too good to be true, it is probably not true.
Here is a thread on the subject from 2018. The information about what “Made in Italy” actually means, or doesn’t means, is probably still true today.

Note that Massimo’s was recommended there as well.
