My mom was told of a great factory and store that was within sight of the Duomo or near the Duomo. Does anyone know of this place? When I googled it there were many factories you could tour.
Thanks!
Although this is not near the Duomo, here is a link to the Santa Croce leather school where you can get a look at artisans at work and purchase beautiful leather goods. Prices are fairly high, but the quality is excellent. You can get some pieces monogrammed. http://www.scuoladelcuoio.com/scuola-del-cuoio-about-us.html
For a store near Il Duomo, with hands-on service, great quality and reasonable pricing, go no further than Massimo Leather.

Word of mouth is what brings people back to see Massimo and his wife Colette. Great selection. Not the cheapest but unmatched quality. Enjoy!
I had this on my to do list for our trip in Italy last year, but never had the time to visit it when we were in Florence: https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attraction_Review-g187895-d4688360-Reviews-Michelangelo_Florentine_Leather-Florence_Tuscany.html
You can also visit the street leather markets on San Lorenzo or Santa Croce. Cheaper stuff, probably made in Asia, but will have a "made in Italy" sticker. Don't knock it. I bought a leather journal cover from a Florence street market more than 30 years ago and it is still going strong.
