Learning Roma Bus Routes

We’re in Rome and thanks to your book, we made it from Trastevere to the Colosseum...after walking to the Argentina area...and my friend blasting me for not having planned the trip better. Our accommodations are between Piazza Trilussa and Santa Maria in Trastevere. So, I’m asking, before we venture out tomorrow for the Baths of Caracalla and Saturday for the Vatican, what is the best website to download the bus numbers and their routes? Thank you!!

Personally, I relied on google maps. Transit options are well laid out.

Google maps.

Just put in your destination and tell it to get you there from your current location. It tells you the bus stop, shows you how to walk there, the bus number and estimated time of arrival. Then you get on the bus and can follow it on the map to know when to get off. Then it shows you the walk from the stop to your destination
Best thing ever. Nothing is perfect but this works very well

We just returned home from our Italy trip and the Rome bus schedules were the worst of our trip (for us at least). I wished I had spent more time researching the bus schedules, however we stayed at the Hilton hotel in the Parioli district and even though it wasn't centrally located, many of the hotel reviews said the main attractions were easy to reach by bus so I didn't worry too much about it. Turns out though that a few of the bus/tram lines were down and it was confusing. I'm sure some of it was us, but my husband downloaded the app and we didn't find it useful. We couldn't get it to work, and when it did, it directed us to a stop to wait for a bus that never showed up after we waited for over an hour (along with 3, tired and hot teenage girls). What we found more useful, was finding young locals to help us out and we did rely on the google maps to help us track our stops. Thanks to a few young women, we managed, but not without frustration. Hopefully you ended up fairing well with your travels. If I do it again, I'll definitely consider a taxi.

I hope Carrie will tell us which app she found not helpful, as there is more than one bus app for Rome. I've downloaded Probus Rome and Roma Bus.

Hi Michael,

Truthfully, I'm not sure which app it was. It was recommended by a local who was helping us out and we downloaded it on to a phone that the Hilton Hotel loans out to its guests (so I don't have it now to check). It was weird too, because the girl helping us was even having a hard time with it too. Maybe it was just a blip in the system that day? I'll keep those other apps you mentioned in mind for next time.
