I am traveling to Italy in Nov. and would love some basic Italian under my belt. What is the best online program or format please?
We are using Babbel for our upcoming trip.
I like the Pimsleur CDs, which worked pretty well for me with the help of my high school French and rudimentary Spanish. I got them from my public library. I also found this lesson helpful.
I have been using Duolingo and I love it. I use the free version which has helped develop my language just fine. There are basic phrases, stories and language tips.
Try https://www.ricksteves.com/watch-read-listen/video/travel-talks/italian-language
the Rick Steves YouTube video. It’s free.
Also get it by going onto the Search bar at top of forum and searching for learning Italian.
Try coffee break Italian. The lessons are short – about 20 minutes — and begin with things generally needed by travelers, such as asking directions, asking for hotel rooms, introducing yourself, etc. It’s free, but, as always, there is an additional, more thorough version available at a cost . I have use the basic one with great success.
I also like Pimsleur as they provide a good introduction to basic phrases, etc. The lessons are each 30 minutes, and you'll have to be diligent to do one each day before your trip.
For tourist language, I recommend beginning with YouTube videos of beginner Italian. If you’re traveling by train, definitely know your numbers in case there’s an announcement about a change. Have a great time!
