Leaning Tower of Pisa- with children

I'm wondering if anyone knows how strictly the age restrictions of 8+ is enforced to climb the tower? My daughter and I are going and shes a tall 7. DO they ask for some form of ID? Thanks in advance for any help!

The age restriction probably has a lot to do with safety at the top. The tower is leaning, obviously, and when I went to the top I would not even venture to the edge of the side that's leaning toward the ground. I'm not too afraid of heights, but that was scarey to me. Once on the top there is also another top tier you can climb to. I was very unimpressed with the railing and safety features of the top...so I can understand the age restrictions.

Just out of curiosity I asked our guide at the top if anybody ever jumped to their death. To my astonishment she said that several people have done just that. All this to say, it's not difficult to go over the edge, and I would have a leash and harness on my kids even if they were 8...then again I am rather protective.

The tower does turn people away - kind of like roller coasters at theme parks - for being too small.

I'm actually a bit surprised about the age restriction. Despite the angle we didn't find it difficult to do. My kids have climbed higher and more difficult/narrower church towers with me (Cologne comes to mind where a lot of adults turn around half way because they can't manage) when they were younger. And had no problems. But my youngest was 10 when we did Pisa so I can't comment on the enforcement of the kids rule there.
