We're going to have almost 5 hours in the Rome airport - don't want to try to get into town, but would be interested in a small town or attraction easy to get to nearby. We'll be there on Monday, when the Ostia Antica excavations are closed. Are there other things to do in the area?

Best advise I can give (and Ron too) stay at the airport because it is not the most organized airport in the world. Five hours is not a lot of time! Sorry, but have fun!!!

Well - you might be able to get to the Parco Leonardo Mall which is one stop east on the FM1 train that departs from the FCO station... but I would not venture too much farther than that.
You have to get back through security, and then to your gate... and FCO is not the most organized airport in the world... so I'd say stay there - or stay close!
