Layover in Paris/checked bags

I'm not new to flying to Europe with a layover (this time New York -> Paris -> Venice, but it's been a number of years since I did so with checked bags. Can someone please remind me if my bags will go on to Venice or if I have to pick them up and check them again in Paris? It's a single ticket. I feel silly for asking but can't remember nor find the exact answer searching online. Thanks!

Yes, your bags should be checked through to Venice on one ticket. When you drop your bags in New York, you will be able to verify this with the gate agent, and see VCE on the tag.

Thanks! Will make the layover less stressful. (And leave more time for eating French patisserie.)

I don’t know if Venice is different to Palma, Majorca when we flew via Frankfurt with bags checked through. In Palma, our bags didn’t turn up on the announced carousel so we went to report missing luggage only to told after a few questions, that there was a separate section / carousel for bags that hadn’t cleared customs in an earlier airport. I must have missed a sign somewhere along the path from plane to baggage. So we had to find a way into that restricted area, collected our bags, cleared customs and were on our way.

Thank you, babyboomer, good to know. If we don't see our bags on the main carousel I'll look for that option.

I just did Seattle> Paris> Venice in September. It went smoothly, but I recommend using a quart bag for your liquids (grocery store type) if you're not already. I had a "TSA approved" kit that I bought on Amazon- clear, zippered, included the 2 oz. containers. Security asked me to repack my liquids in a quart bag they handed me. Not sure why, but I saw others having to do the same. It was no big deal, but next time around I'll know better.

Have a wonderful trip! I can't wait to go back to Venice!

Hi Sara,
Thanks for the tip. Was this in your carry-on or checked bag? I definitely remember being given clear, zip top bags at an Italian airport in the past for my liquid toiletries.

CG_Birdy, this would be in your carry-on items. Even if you have chapstick and eyedrops or other liquids in your purse, I'd go ahead and "decant" them into a quart ziplock when you load your personal item before departure. Transiting thru CDG in September for a flight to Milan the guys at 2F security all had ziplocks in their hands they were giving to people who did not have their liquids in a clear ziplock. I did, just held mine up and he nodded OK and pointed to the bin.

This will be easier than you are anticipating! How much time have you allowed for your transit time? (I know your question is NOT about that...so just wanting to make sure it will work for you!).

Hi Pam,
Thanks, that’s super helpful. I will definitely do that.
I have a 4 hour layover so there’s plenty of time. There was an option for another flight that would leave us an hour and 45 minute layover but I was worried with all the delays these days that it would be cutting it too close.
