Layover

I am looking at flying from Houston to Venice with a layover in Munich going over. Coming home I found a flight from Florence to Houston, with a layover in Virginia at Dulles (IAD)?

I know going over to Italy it is wise to have my layover in Europe, as there should be many more flights going into Italy in case we are late. Coming back, does it matter if the layover is in Europe or the US? Also, any experience with IAD in Virginia?

Thanks!

IAD is a huge International airport
Even though in Virginia it is considered a DC airport
United Hub

You won’t have any problems there and I would rather get across the pond than layover in Euroe on return

Coming home to the US I always want my layover in the US. Once I know I'm on US soil, in a pinch I can hop on any plane, train, auto, hitchhike...to get home.

We flew back from Greece via IAD. We have global entry and it was fast. We rechecked our bags very easily and quickly. The only glitch was it started raining and the bags stopped coming in. Mine was there but not my husband’s. Some people were leaving their bags. Not sure what happens then. But once my husband got his bag, it was smooth sailing.

We had hiking poles and thus had checked our bags. Usually we do not.

There is no way you can fly from Florence to Houston (IAH) non stop. Check your itinerary better. You are probably having a layover in Munich or Frankfurt on the way back. From Florence you can only fly to European airports, unless you have your own private jet (Kim Kardashian flew to Florence directly that way for her wedding with Kanye West)

Good catch Roberto

There are no direct flights from Florence to IAD or anywhere in US

OP
That return flight must have 2 stops Munich ? Then Dulles

Sorry I wasn't clear- I know there isn't a direct flight from Italy to Houston. Was just asking if I should make my layover in Europe or the US.

Thanks for all of the replies!

My mistake! I had accidentally did round trip to and from Venice instead of a multi-city into Venice and out of Florence.

Thanks again!
