Laundry-Mat in Siena or Sorrento

Our family of five will leave on an 11 day trip to Italy next month. We will each have one bag...a carry-on.

We will be based in Siena and Sorrento. Has anyone located a laundry-mat in either of these two cities.

I think it would be worth the short time to do a load of laundry rather than the bathroom sink daily wash.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

We used a self laundry mat in Sorrento and it was right on the main street, Corso Italia by Vico Rota. It was on the left hand side going toward the center of Sorrento. There was internet there as well. It was clean and we did not have any problems.

Definitely ask at the place you'll be staying rather than hunting for this on your own. It's their business to know these things.

Also, the main advantage to the laundromats is that they also have dryers!! Those are nearly non-existent in Italian homes. But be prepared for a little sticker shock. Last month in Italy we usually paid about 3 to 4 euros a washload and about the same per dryer load. (Their dryers are often oversized and can take 2-3 washer loads.) Also, many of the dryers have only one heat setting: superhot. So don't take anything delicate.

Some laundromats also have a bundle service which can really be pricey (15E a load to wash/dry at one place we saw).

I've used the Onda Blu self-serve laundry in Siena. It's on Casata di Sotto, just off the Campo. It was clean, easy to use and reasonably priced. Has some large capacity washers/dryers. See p 475 of Rick's 2008 Italy guidebook for location.
