Laundry in Florence and Rome

We will be on a 19 day trip in October. Could anyone please recommend a laundry, laundromat or any other way of getting laundry done in Florence and Rome?

If you are not doing hand washing, then asked your hotel for directions to the nearest laundry. They are fairly common since a lot of the locals do not own washing machines. Second, there are a couple different types -- complete self service where you do it all. Or most will have an attendant who for a few extra euro will do it for you, fold it, and return it in a couple hours later. We always use the latter. Costs a little more but very convenient.

Launrdomats often require exact change to buy tokens for the machines. I find it handy to set aside a few 1 and 2 euro coins each day, just in case there's not an attendant or there's no change machine. A couple of 50 cent (half euro) coins are also handy for purchasing detergent. Be cautious of anyone trying to sell you their "extra" tokens, as that's usuallly a scam. Your hotel will know the closest reputable laundromat. In Rome, I like the Punto Blu at Via Cavour 168/170. The young Asian couple that runs it will dry and fold your laundry for only 1 euro extra. You will be expected to supply a bag for the folded laundry, which might still be slightly damp.

We did our laundry years ago a block or 2 down from Piazza Santa Annunzia in Florence. I love sharing with others while doing laundry on the road. In many countries you can just drop it off and pick it up.
