Latest Updates and Best Information on Re-entry to US Testing Requirements

With entry testing requirements being lifted in most European countries, a major concern remains for US travelers who are still required to undergo testing prior to returning the US. With that said, what are your thoughts, plans or latest and best information on the following:

  1. What is the likelihood of testing positive on your test for re-entry to the US? Any good information on percentages of fully vaccinated individuals testing positive on re-entry tests?
  2. If you do happen to test positive, what would your contingency plan considerations need to be? For example, since Italy has or is dropping its quarantine requirements for vaccinated travelers, would you need to remain in a designated Italian hotel for a certain number of days or could you stay in any hotel just until you could test negative? And how long could you continue to test positive?
  3. Do you think the US will lift its re-entry testing requirements? If so, when do you think that might happen? What do you think the criteria would be? Are there any good information sources or official indications either way?

There is absolutely no place this data is collected, coming as it does from tests that occur in just about every country across the globe.

The official info. can be found on the CDC website. These pages will continue to be updated with any changes:

I've learned it does no good to speculate. Things will change when they change.

I do recall reading somewhere that there was about a 1% positive rate from a certain batch of US tourists last year. Can't recall where I read this (maybe on this forum?). In terms of what happens after a positive test, that situation seems to be changing depending on the country. Also, if one has a private online proctored test, are local authorities even informed?

Rob, no one gets the proctored self-test results but the test-taker and anyone the test-taker may chose to share those results with.

IF you test positive you do not need to wait til you test negative
You’ll need to isolate for 5 days (I believe that’s still the requirement-read thru CDC info linked above) then get a letter of recovery showing you have had COVID and are asymptomatic/ready to fly

Agree with above. Not worth speculating or stressing over.

We are traveling 4/23-5/13
I wish US would lift testing requirement as well but if wishes were horses…
